My latest article is up at MindBodyGreen ! This one is the nearest to my heart to date. If anyone had told me 5 years ago when I was working through a diagnosis of breast cancer as well as many other life lesson that I would one day be writing I would have laughed hysterically.
When I first came to yoga and began to really connect with myself the first thing that came up for me was to write. It was a clear message. My response to my inner voice was, “Are you kidding me, I don’t write – number 2 please!” Well, we see how not listening to that voice worked out. Not so good. It kept coming up and I finally gave in.
Cancer created an opening for me. A small hole for the light to seep into a place that had been sealed shut for decades. Yoga began to stretch that space open a little more each day until the darkness of my inner world gave way to the light, as the scars sealed inside began to melt away, sometimes slowly and sometimes not so slowly.
Maybe one day I will find myself writing more about that. In the meantime it is my sincere hope that sharing The 5 Things I Learned From Breast Cancer will in some way help to provide hope, healing, validation, and/or inspiration to others who are touched by cancer.
